200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training and Certification Program
Birmingham Yoga offers two 200 Hour Teacher Training Programs our 6 month training in Birmingham and our 1 month immersion in Guatemala.
Introduction to Training:
Both programs have been designed to provide a rich environment for learning, growing and healing.
There is an immersion period in both trainings. One week in our Birmingham Training and 3.5 weeks in our Guatemala Training.
Our intention for the immersion period is help create an environment for a daily yoga practice.
Once this foundation is laid and healthy habits take root one can begin to truly reap the benefits and wisdom of yoga.
Daily we will practice asana, pranayama, chanting, and meditation as given to me by my teachers.
We will encourage self-inquiry--svadhyaya— and discuss our experiences drawing on the yoga sutras and philosphy.
Each day we will sweat, play and challenge one another working towards a balance of effort and ease.
Goal of Training:
As my teacher, Yogi Bhajan used to say “I am here to create teachers not accumulate students”
Our goal is to support and encourage a daily practice so that we return home to loved ones inspired, strong and energized.
With the knowledge to experience our own sacredness (teacher) and projection to uplift ourselves and those around us.
Style:
Our style of Yoga is a blend of Ashtanga, Vinyasa Flow, Vinyasa Krama and Kundalini Yoga.
These styles offer students a strong foundation for personal growth and a proven method for teaching.
If you are unfamiliar with these practices I would recommend that you attend one of my classes to
decide if you resonate with the practice and my manner of teaching.
Faculty:
Trainings are offered under the guidance and direction of Akasha Ellis (500 E-RYT) at Birminghamyoga and Guest Faculty.
Recommendations:
It is important that you are sincere in your commitment and that you are healthy physically, mentally and emotionally.
Yoga can be practiced by all and we do not want to discourage anyone who has the right intention however the training will be challenging physically and mentally and it is important that you are in the space to allow these changes to unfold.
During this exploration one may experience feelings of comfort, discomfort, happiness, sadness, joy and fear
all of which are equally important in our growth. We do recommend a minimum of 1 year of Hatha Yoga Practice before attending our Teacher Training Program.
About Akasha:
Akasha became a student of the renowned master teacher of Kundalini yoga, Yogi Bhajan, at the age of 11.
This initiation with his teacher sparked his life-long quest to grow, learn and experience life. In his twenties, while living and working in India,
Akasha began studying Ashtanga yoga with Pattabhi Joi’s nephew, Vishwanath. Akasha has been leading yoga classes for over twenty years.
As Akasha believes “a teacher must teach and share what they know”. I have found the easiest way to teach is to share my experiences.
And if you do not know the answer that’s okay be truthful and let the person know.
In regards pain in the body and practicing listen to the body and watch your breath.
If you cannot breathe deeply and smile then you have probably crossed the edge. I know because I have done this myself and paid the consequences.
Each day of practice is a new opportunity to breathe, feel and understand. Some days it feels easy other days it’s more difficult.
It’s all part of the play and I feel blessed being able to be in the school yard.
Accreditation:
At the end of training students will be prepared to instruct and lead a beginning Level 1 and Level 2 Ashtanga and Vinyasa-flow class.
Birmingham Yoga Teacher Training program is a Registered School with Yoga Alliance and upon completion of your training you may register
with Yoga Alliance by sending in a copy of your certificate of training
Personal Words:
I truly believe Yoga is a journey of awakening and experiencing that oneness in our own being.
It provides us with a method of understanding our true self and divine teacher that watches over our body and mind, thoughts and actions.
A path of love, courage, compassion, acceptance, that leads us inward towards fulfillment, happiness and freedom.
